Southside Youth Development Corporation, Inc. (SYDC) was founded in 1989 by Reverend James E. Coleman. After pastoring at Hayes Grove Baptist Church for two years, Rev. Coleman saw the need for community activities and solicited the assistance and collaboration of other local pastors in its organization.

Since its inception, the SYDC organization has been centrally located in South Hill, Virginia. However, SYDC services children and families in Brunswick, Lunenburg and Mecklenburg counties. SYDC is spiritually based and is guided by a strong moral compass.
